Minocqua’s Cole Stella poses after winning the Junior Sprint Feature at Eagle River Speedway on Friday, June 1.

Eagle River Speedway is considered one of the most challenging dirt stock car tracks in the Midwest. The one-third mile tri-oval features three corners that are completely different from each other. This makes it difficult to set a car up.

That didn't matter this past Friday night, however. While four-time WISSOTA Midwest Modified track champion Jesse Aho of Toivola, Mich., held off last year's class champion and fellow Upper Peninsula racer Marcus Dunbar of Wakefield, it was racers from out of the area that dominated in the other two WISSOTA Sanctioned classes.

Auburndale's Kyle Genett walked away from the competition in the Street Stock class and Duluth, Minnesota's Jeremy Cash simply outran the competition in Pure Stocks.

In the Street Stock feature, Genett built up a commanding lead of over more than a half a lap until Wausau's Kevin Bogdonavich lost control going into the hair-pin third turn on the 17th lap.

Genett pulled away after the ensuing restart and the race to watch was between Tomahawk's CJ Hedges Jr. and Eagle River's Ryan Valeria. Hedges appeared to get loose in the final turn but held on to stay in front of Valeria to take second place.

Earlier in the night, Genett looked to have the field covered in the Street Stock heat race. However, with only a couple of laps to go, he had engine problems and had to get pushed off the track. His crew worked hard during intermission to get the car running for the feature.

Cash took the lead early and appeared to run away from the pack in the Pure Stock feature. That is until the final lap when Tucker Quinn of Ladysmith finally worked his way from the back of the field to challenge Cash.

Quinn and Cash raced side-by-side for the final lap. The two got together and Quinn got out of shape in the final turn. That gave Cash the win, while the winner of the season opener, Isabelle Valeria, got by Quinn for the runner-up spot.

It was Cash's first feature win in his first year of racing.

The night started off with the young children putting on a great show in the Junior Sprint heat race. The Minocqua tandem of Cole Stella and Josh Nevoraski changed leads three times in the seven-lap race. Boulder Junction's Peyton Towne stuck right with the two. Stella won the heat by less than a couple feet, ahead of Towne and Nevoraski.

The three were once again racing a few feet from each other for the entire Junior Sprint feature. In the end, Stella squeaked by Nevoraski and Towne.

Jake Ison continued his winning streak in the Pro Trucks by winning both the feature and the heat. Ison is undefeated in the first two races of the year. Denver Larson held off his brother, Dylan, to win both the 600 Sprint heat and feature.
